Environmental projects focusing on fighting covid-19

Luanda - Environmental projects linked to the conservation of biodiversity, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, in the centre and southern parts of the country, have been integrated into the actions to combat and prevent covid-19.

According to a note from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment sent last Wednesday to ANGOP, the integration of the response to Covid-19 in the activities of projects financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is done without additional costs for projects.

The source also said that, the environmental projects supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with direct relevance for combating covid-19, are valued at US $ 720.000, reaching directly or indirectly almost 500.000 people, mostly in the south of the country.

Among the actions are programs on climate resilience and Covid-19 broadcast on Rádio Cunene broadcasting , in the languages ​​Ochivambo and Nhaneca-Humbe.

Drought appears to be one of the main causes that threaten food security and the survival of more than two billion people worldwide.

In Angola, more than 1.1 million people have been severely affected by the impact of the El Niño phenomenon and climate change.

Regarding the covid-19 pandemic, the latest data indicate 155 positive cases, 84 active, 64 recovered and seven deaths.
