Angosat1 control centre ready to operate - Director General

Luanda - Angosat1 satellite control and mission centre, the first Angolan satellite, is equipped with highest technology and ready to operate, said on Tuesday the Director General of the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN), Zolana Rui João.

Speaking to Angop after the visit paid by journalists to the centre, the DG added that 47 Angolan youths work there in order to ensure the functioning, operations and maintenance of the satellite during the 15 years in orbit.

Built in an area of ??6.617 square meters, the building has three floors, a teleport, security room that will ensure the security of the building, ballistics room that serves to see the location of the satellite and a parking lot.

To Zolana Rui João, the main objective of the journalists' visit was to present the centre to the press and publicize the sales of Angosat's capacities1.

He said that the satellite will have two bands called KU and KC, in which the first will cover SADC region and the second will cover the entire African continent and Europe.

The construction of the project (Angosat 1), located in Funda Commune, Cacuaco Municipality, north of Luanda, is set to last 36 months.
