The implementation of this project, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, in partnership with the Angolan multinational, Angola Cables, will turn Angola into the first country in the world to connect Africa and South America via the Atlantic Ocean, in an extension of 6.200 kilometers.

In addition to joining the two continents by sea, SACS will also turn Angola into the epicenter of telecommunications in Africa, ensuring a traffic route Africa/United States/Europe through the West Africa Cable System (WACS) linking 11 countries in Africa and three in Europe, according to SACS project manager, Clementino Fernando.

The manager said so to the press during the official launch ceremony of SACS, which took place Wednesday in the town of Sangano, Quissama municipality in Luanda.

According to him, this system will have a latency (reaction time) of around 60.000 seconds, allowing faster communications in the country and world.

He ensured that all equipment (cables and ships) is already available in Japan, as it is the manufacturer country and owner of the company that is carrying out the work, allowing the cable installation to be completed by February 2018.

"The completion of the SACS installation is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018 and in July of the same year, the Japanese company will hand over the completed infrastructure to the project manager, Angola Cables", he said.

The launch act the submarine fiber optic cable into the water was led by the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, José Carvalho da Rocha and witnessed by the Minister of Science and Technology, Cândida Teixeira, provincial government officials, diplomats and technicians of the sector.

The execution of this project represents the materialization of the strategy of access to submarine cables, approved in April 2009 by the President of the Republic of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos.
