Luanda, 12/16 - Angolas Petro de Luanda women handballteam and african clubs champion satuday won the babacar fallsupercup for absence of Africa Sport de Abidjan.
After three consecutive adjournments, the organisers of the eventtaking place in Libreville attributed the title to Petro de Luanda.
Babacar fall supercup is played prior to the opening of thechampions cup in both sexes.
In the 2001 edition in Nigeria, Petro beat africa sport deAbidjan 28-24.
Petro won their first supercup in Algeria in 1996 under coachBeto Ferreira who is now Enana.
The angolan team lost the subsequent edition in 1997 to Africasport de Abidjan but ended up recovering this continental trophy in1998 in benin.
From then on Petro de Luanda never missed any opportunity toconsolidate their hegemony in the african handball winningconsecutively the editions of 1999 and 2000 both played in Benin,2001 in Nigeria and on saturday in Gabon (2002) even withoutplaying.
Coached by Armando Gomes Culau, Petro are opening theirparticipation in the african clubs championship sunday playing assel de libreville at Omar Bongo pavillion.
