Luanda, 03/09 - FIBA-Africa has decided to suspend the Winners cup of Champions Cup of Africa (basketball senior male), also called Ashry Cup, and teams qualified for that competition will contest in the African Championshipof Clubs, says a note from that organism sent to Angop, in Luanda.
The note says the decision came from a meeting of FIBA-Africa central bureauheld December 16-17, 2003 in Maputo, Mozambique.
According to the document, the new cup of African Champions clubs, of which trophy is in possession of the Angolan champion 1 de Agosto, will be disputed every year with the participation of two teams from each country.
The preliminary round of that competition will be disputed in two groups or more, depending on the number of teams which is expected to rise.
The preliminary phase is scsheduled for next July-August, while the final one will be held between October and November at a place still unknown.
1 de Agosto is the current winner of the trophy of the African championship of clubs.
