Abuja, 12/21 - Angola won the bid to host the 2007 edition of the African Basketball Championship (Afrobasket), after beating Mali, following a ruling from the Executive Commission of Fiba-Africa released Wednesday, Angop learned.
According to a Fiba-Africa source, Angolan Federation of Basketball (FAB) forwarded good proposals for the continental competition.
FAB secretary general, Tony Sofrimento, said the candidature is substantiated in a brochure on the competition`s marketing, a video on the country and a set of advantages the nation can offer to visiting delegations.
Angola hosted the editions of 1989 and 1999, being the country with the highest number of Afrobasket trophies, a total of eight.
Mali has never organised such a competition, with its best result being a third position, in the 1972 edition.
The latest edition of the continental competition of basketball was held in Alger, when Angola became eight time winner.
