Luanda, Aug 25 - In 40 hard minutes facing a strong opponent, Angola beat Senegal by 70-61Wednesday in Algiers, showing class and talent in the final of the 23rd African Basketball Championship, becoming the continent`s 8-time winner.
With this victory, the African cracks proved, once again, that in Africa, Angola continue unbeaten, in view of the results obtained during the competition, in which South Africa and Mozambique were the main victims, with defeats of more than 60 points gap.#
The Angola that appeared as one of the youngest teams in the championship, following the replacement by 90 percent of its veteran players, had only three true tough matches: one against Nigeria, and two facing Senegal, in the semi-finals and finals, respectively.
Reacting to the victory and the consequent conquest of the eighth title, national coach, Mario Palma, said it is a characteristic of the team that, despite being new, is intent on knocking down everything standing on its way, propelled by hard working and hard will to win.
Mario Palma, who recognised the value of the Angolan team`s opponents stressed that, more than the conquering the trophy, the achievement of the act is a proof that the country is on good path to keep hold of its tradition of victories.
