Carlos Guimarães to coach national team till Afrobasket2013

Luanda - The newly appointed national senior males basketball coach, José Carlos Guimarães, will remain at the head of the squad until the African Basketball Championship (Afrobasket2013) in Cote d'Ivoire.

This was said Monday in Luanda by the secretary-general of the Angolan Federation of Basketball (FAB), Tony Sofrimento.

Tony Sofrimento was speaking to the press during the introduction of the coach to the players.

FAB official explained that as a players of the ex-African champions and assistant coach, Jose Carlos Guimarães will prepare a team to regain the African title, starting with the participation at pre-Olympic tournament and then Olympic Games.

In his turn, José Carlos Guimarães said each competition will serve to boost the next competition. The team will take part in the pre-Olympic tournament to qualify for the games and at the same time to project the Afrobasket2013.

He added that the intention is to create a cohesive group to qualify for the London Olympics and keep it until the next African competition with the fewest minor changes possible.

"Angola is still the best African team, we will try to correct the aspects considered wrong in the Afrobasket2011 and improve the good ones,” he stated.

Bellow is the list of players called for pre-Olympic scheduled for July 2- 8 in Caracas, Venezuela:  Leonel Paulo, Carlos Almeida, Armando Costa, Kikas Gomes, Felizardo Ambrósio (1º de Agosto), Carlos Morais, Paulo Barros, Roberto Fortes, Divaldo Mbunga, Paulo Santana (Petro de Luanda), Jorge Tati, Eduardo Mingas, Milton Barros (Interclube), Olímpio Cipriano and Luís Costa (Libolo), Yanick Moreira and Valdelicio Joaquim (EUA).
