This was said to Angp on Tuesday by the Vice-president for football of the referred club, Manuel Dias dos Santos.
He said that the Cabo Verdean coach signed a two-year contract with Progresso do Sambizanga and will start to choose the squad on the ground and prepare the 2014 sport season.
“I confirm the signing by the president Paixão Júnior of the coach Lúcio Antunes, who will work with the managing board of the club in the choice of the squad for the new national football season, so further details will be provided with the coach’s endorsement that has his own preferences”, he said.
The 47-year-old, who shares his time as coach and air-traffic controller, made history when he qualified the Islanders to their first Africa Cup of Nations early this year in South Africa.
He was also on the verge of leading the outfit to their first ever World Cup before Cape Verde’s outstanding away 2-0 win over Tunisia was overturned for using an ineligible player.
Antunes has managed only Cape Verde as a team.
