Handball: Filipe Cruz takes up national women team
Luanda - Angolan Filipe Cruz was on Wednesday in Luanda introduced as the new coach for the national senior women team of handball, in replacement of the Portuguese João Florêncio, whose contract with the federation has terminated.

The new coach was introduced by the Angolan Handball Federation (Faand) president, Pedro Godinho, during a press conference.
Filipe Cruz is having as his first challenges at the head of the national team the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro, in August this year, and the African championship in Angola in December.
Meanwhile, Faand chairman also presented Edgar Neto as assistant to Filipe Cruz and head of the national junior women team, whereas Luís Chaves will be in charge of the women cadet team.
The 47-year old Filipe Cruz has been doing well as coach of 1º de Agosto’s senior men and of the junior men teams, with regular presence in continental competitions.
In January this year, Filipe Cruz led the national senior men team into the third position in the African handball championship held in Cairo, Egypt, which qualified Angola for the world championship of 2017 in France.
Besides serving 1º de Agosto as a player, Filipe Cruz also played in the Portuguese and Spanish championships.
So far, the national senior women team has been under coaches Beto Ferreira, Jerónimo Neto, Vivaldo Eduardo, Bulgarian Pavel Dzeinev and the Portuguese Paulo Pereira and João Florêncio.
