Basketball: Maturity might determine Angola's performance in WCup bid

Luanda - The maturity and experience of the senior males Angolan national basketball team's athletes will be a crucial factor for the squad, who were recently called up to start preparations for the second stage of the eliminatory competition, set for 29 June to 01 July in Egypt, which qualifies for the 2019 China World Cup.

Basketball: Angolan squad preparing for eliminatory competition qualifier for the China World Cup

This was said last Tuesday by the coach of ASA team, Carlos Dinis, when making an analysis on the perspectives regarding the country’s participation in second stage of the eliminatory competition qualifier for the China World Cup.

The coach stressed that the Angolan squad will have a tough time in the fight for the pass to the World Cup, since the other teams are also focused on that goal.

However, he said, the Angolan squad have players who are intelligent, experienced and tactically good, who are able to make Angola keep leading  Group C of the tournament qualifier for the World Cup.

Benvindo Quimbamba, Pedro Basto, Hermenegildo Mbunga, Olímpio Cipriano (Libolo team), Carlos Morais (Sport Lisboa e Benfica), Eduardo Mingas, Hermenegildo Santos, Jaques Conceição, Jone Pedro, Islando Manuel (1º de Agosto), Gerson Lukeny, Leonel Paulo (Petro de Luanda), Reggie Moore (Galitos de Portugal team), Valdelicio Joaquim (STB Le Havre of France), Bruno Fernando (Maryland University, USA), Sílvio Sousa (Kansas University, USA), Gerson Domingos, Ngombo Rogério (Interclube), Yanick Moreira (Parma Baslet, Russia) and Júlio Afonso (Club Baloncesto Tizona of Spain).

Angola are leading Group C with six points, followed by Egypt (5), Morocco (4) and DR Congo (3).
