Football: Former Angolan skipper says knows nothing about fine payment

The fine was imposed by FIFA following a dispute the player had with Qatar SC Football Club, after he was found guilty for making himself unavailable for the Qatar squad, while representing the Angolan national team.

On Monday, the vice-chairperson of the football federation for national teams, José Luís Prata, revealed that the referred amount has already been delivered by the Angolan Head of State.

The official, who disclosed the information to the private television broadcaster TV Zimbo, said the chairman of the Angola Football Federation (FAF) has already been authorized by the president of the Republic to pay the debt the ex-footballer owes to Qatar SC.

Briefing on the issue, the former national skipper and scorer of the goal that qualified Angola for the 2006 FIFA World Cup for the first time to date, said further explanations can only be given by FAF or the Youth and Sports Ministry.

According to the player, these officials are the ones who recently met with the president, so it is up to them to provide any further explanations on this issue.

“I am watching this film and waiting for a solution to be favourable to my person, it has been shameful all the things I have been through”, regretted the player.

The Angolan Football Federation, in its turn, vowed to pronounce itself soon on the issue that has been dragging for over a decade.

The ex-player has been suspended from any sports activity by FIFA until the fine is paid.

Akwá started his professional career in 1992. He played for Nacional de Benguela and Portuguese Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Alverca and Académica de Coimbra.

He also played for Qatar SC, Al-Wakra  and Al-Gharafa.

He retired in 2008, after representing Angola’s Petro de Luanda.
