The African position resulted from the first annual meeting of the Economic Committee of African Ambassadors Group, held Saturday at the Embassy of Angola in Brasilia.
During the meeting, the African ambassadors outlined the goals of their work plan for 2016, with focus on high-level meetings with the Brazilian authorities, with a view to leveraging the Brazil-Africa relations to economic and trade cooperation, which in 2015 stood at more than $ 30 billion and exceeded the 2000 numbers, when trade between the two partners reached five billion dollars.
African ambassadors considered it a priority to political and diplomatic coordination with Brazil to jointly study ways to improve and strengthen the monitoring mechanisms of the agreed cooperation, and to promote others in a context where many African countries are beginning to show great interest to invest more in Brazil.
Relations between Brazil and Africa have intensified in recent years, and currently 34 African embassies are accredited in Brasilia, while Brazil is represented at the level of embassies in 37 African countries.
