Speaking to Angop, the engineer said that with the dam rehabilitation there is more water and stabilized energy to boost farming on a large scale and implementation of manufacturing activities which can boost the economy.

According to him, the completion of the rehabilitation of the physical part of the dam is to enable better control of river flow and consequently retaining more water in the irrigation canal, because it was replaced the old gates that left the river without water.

He spoke of eight new gates in addition to regulate water for energy production, which are also responsible to pump water to the canal with more than 42 kilometers long and irrigate the crops of the peasants in the perimeter.

The first phase of the rehabilitation project of the Matala dam is allowing better use of the existing power generating capacity of 42 megawatts and more physical security as the infrastructure was already at a worrying stage of degradation.
