Speaking to Angop on Tuesday in this city, the provincial head of the Institute of Artisanal Fisheries (IPA), Álvaro Jorge, said pilot experience in breeding freshwater fish is already underway in the municipalities of Mbanza Congo, Nzeto, Cuimba and Nóqui.

He said that under the guidance of the National Aquaculture Directorate, a special attention will be given to the municipalities of Soyo and Tomboco, for bringing together the best conditions in terms of water resources.

"Soyo and Tomboco gather abundant water resources to build nurseries to base tanks or natural systems through deviations from the course of the waters of rivers and lakes", he emphasized.

To him, the promotion of aquaculture is part of a programme outlined by the government and should be properly implemented in order to contribute to the improvement of the population’s diet.

He explained that, initially, 52 tanks for fish farming were prepared in the aforementioned municipalities, whose process is done entirely manually, since the excavation of containers to feed production.

Zaire fisheries sector controls about 15 farmers, distributed in the fishing communities of the municipalities of Mbanza Congo, Nzeto, Cuimba and Nóqui, the source said.
