The information was released by the director of SADC National Bureau, Sandro de Oliveira, who added that Angola has also contributed Usd 4.4 million for the regional organisation’s 2016 economic exercise, against Usd 3.7 million of the previous year.

He said Angola’s tendency on the issue is to keep a gradually rising trend in its contribution, in response to SADC programme going until 2020.

According to the official, a Finance Commission meeting held recently noted that there are still some weaknesses in the organisation, particularly concerning its budget, as 70 percent still come from international partners.

Sandro de Oliveira stated as well that the meeting urged the SADC Secretariat to adopt strategies enabling the organisation not to greatly rely on international partners funding.

As he explained, the overall contribution from SADC member countries amounts to Usd 36.6 million, and that due to the difficult international financial situation currently facing the world, the international partners have decided to cut down on its aid by Usd 14 million.

This, the official added, will make the functioning of the organisation difficult, as the contributions from member countries only cover internal costs.
