The minister was speaking soon after arriving in Gaborone, to attend the SADC Council of Ministers Meeting.

The diplomat said that of the member countries’ contribution, about Usd 2.0 million is spent on the security of each official, which he considered a violation of the statutes of the organisation.

Speaking to Angop in Gaborone, the diplomat stressed the need for a wise management of the regional organisation’s financial resources, seeking to achieve one of its key objectives which is the industrialisation of the region.

According to the official, the member states are concerned about reducing the dependence on funds from international partners and start counting on the organisation’s own resources, to develop projects capable of generating funds.

As to the advantages of Angola as the second major financial contributor to the organisation, Georges

Chikoti said the country is in solidarity with the region and that there are projects in the region that cover Angola.

He added that its condition as the second major financial contributor has to do with the political solidarity in the region.

The minister explained that SADC has a force that ensures the stability of member countries whose headquarters is currently led by Angola.

According to him, a regional fund estimated at Usd 120 million is practically established for the coming three years.

In its quality as a SADC member country, Angola contributed Usd 3.0 million last year, having risen the amount to Usd 4.4 million in 2016, it was said.

The source added that the international partners have cut down their aid from Usd 46 million to Usd 32 million.

Until 31 December 2015, SADC received from member countries Usd 36.6 million worth of contribution.
