Angola: Maritime companies urged to become profitable

Luanda - The public companies of the maritime and port sector must from now on start betting on their productivity and yield profits in the face of the country?s current financial crisis, as well as improve the quality of the services they provide.

This was said on Wednesday in Luanda by the Luanda Port’s CEO, Alberto Bengue, during the inauguration ceremony of Luanda Port Academy (APL), led by the Transport minister, Augusto da Silva Tomás.

According to the official, the Angolan Maritime and port sector must not only bet on its modernization and enlargement of the port facilities, but also promote a sustainable modern management and adoption of better business management.  

Taking into account the above mentioned aspects, the Port official explained that these facts boosted the opening of the referred academy, which will ensure bet on human resources so as to elevate their competences, skills and attitudes of the personnel of this sector in several domains.     

The APL will establish partnership with national and international training entities recognized in this sector, as well as conduct consultations in various domains of the maritime and port sector and conduct studies, research and disclosure of varied issues related to this field.

At least 80 percent of Angolan imported products are shipped out from Luanda port.
