Speaking to ANGOP, in the ambit of the announcement of the increase of the value of Road Tax, many drivers expressed their dissatisfaction at this rise of the price, justifying their stance with the explanation that roads countrywide are in a bad state.

The lorry driver Joaquim Dinis, who for the past six years has been driving through the Luanda (northwest)/Saurimo (east of the country) national road, admitted that it is normal that the government increases the value of Road Tax, however it has to rehabilitate the roads well, because every day one hears of or witnesses car accidents, sometimes mainly caused by the poor state of the roads.

On his turn, lorry driver Benvindo Cuiva, said he does not understand the reason why the Road Tax value has been raised and questioned why this has happened when one sees a lot of big holes on the country’s roads.

In view of this, he concluded, before such rise took place the government should first improve the state of the roads.

Another driver, Carlitos Mwatangue said that through Road Tax the Angolan Executive collects funds for roads repair works, so he is fine with the payment of the new amount, but he agrees with the other interviewees on the need for better rehabilitation interventions.

The payment of the Road Tax for the year 2017 will happen from 01 January to 31 March 2018, as it was recently announced by the Finance Ministry.
