Benguela: Agriculture projects over 200,000 tons of products

Benguela - At least 2,19,242 tones of miscellaneous products, especially cereals and tubers, could be produced in Benguela province, in the 2017/2018 agricultural campaign, aimed at guaranteeing food security for the population, revealed the provincial director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Fernando Assis.

Speaking to ANGOP on Saturday, in connection with the 2017/2018 agricultural campaign, the official said that in terms of cereals, 66,734 tons of maize and 7,560 of sorghum are projected.

As for the production of vegetables, the Director of Agriculture in Benguela, has set as targets the production of 13,773 tones of common beans, 11,506 of butter beans, 3,521 of peanuts, along with 49,500 tons of manioc and 66,648 of sweet potatoes, already in the case of tubers.

Regarding the production areas, he said that a total of 152,798 hectares were prepared throughout the province, of which 86,999 hectares for cereals, 52,005 for legumes and 13,281 hectares for roots and tubers.
