This was said to the press by the FAO representative to Angola, Mamadou Diallou, on the fringes of the opening of the locally produced spirulina consumption campaign presided over by the minister of Fisheries and Sea, Victória de Barros Neto.
The project financed by FAO is budgeted at USD 350,000, as part of the partnership with Angolan government.
According to the FAO official, this is the most modest project that can be developed to bolster the strategies for the diversification of the Angolan economy, taking into account the short-term investment return, unlike other projects that require huge financial resources.
Mamadou Diallou also undercored that the spirulina produced in Cambambe has one the best quality at the level of Africa and is the best in the Southern Africa region, which besides responding to the nutritional needs of the people it can contribute to increase revenues through exportation.
The acceptance by the Angolan government in the usage of the technology proposed by FAO in terms of artisanal system, (the only one used in Southern Africa), the availability of human resources, the weather, the quantity and quality of the water made available by Kwanza river, all these aspects combined contributed to the good quality of the sipirulina produced in the country.
