Government wants modern and efficient transports sector

Lobito - The Transports minister, Ricardo de Abreu, last Thursday in Lobito City, centre-west Benguela Province, defended the increase of synergies so that Angola can have a modern, efficient and sustainable transports sector as well as become a reference in terms of public-private partnerships.

Speaking in the opening of the Tenth Broad Consultative Council of the Transports Ministry, which is happening on 29-30 November, Ricardo de Abreu, said that his department wants to see each firm of the transports sector with a business plan that encourages the appearance of activities and industries of support to the transports system.

The government official also advocated the need for a change in the remuneration system of firms functioning under the umbrella of the transports sector which can lead to more positive results and services with major quality.

Thus, the minister pointed out as strategic objectives for the sector the adoption of intermodal transportation, the connection among the infrastructures spread across the continent, less polluting transports and the reinforcement of the competences of the Transportation Ministry’s institutes.

He went on to emphasise that other priorities of the sector include the conclusion of the new international airport, the drafting of the provincial master plans and the integration with the national network of logistical platforms.

The minister also expressed the willingness to see transports companies help boost the sector’s gains and contribute to a greater dynamics of the economy and wellbeing of the country.

On his turn, the governor of Benguela Province, Rui Falcão, who also spoke in the event, highlighted the importance of the transports sector in the country’s regional integration process.

For two days, the Broad Consultative Council of the Transports Ministry will analyse themes like “Concessions for Exploration of Ports”, “Civil Aviation, challenges of the future”, “Passenger and Goods Transports”, “Innovation in Transports”, among others.
