This was during an opening ceremony of forestry campaign 2018 held Tuesday in Úcua, municipality of Dande, northern Bengo province.

According to the official, the new forestry regulation is part of a wide range of measures implemented to improve and discipline the sector.

The measure also serves to ensure the management of forest resources due to

the irregularities recorded, especially in the exploitation, transportation and marketing to the final destination.

He stressed that in the field of exploitation, in addition to the annual license, the sector introduced a forest concession contract regime, which entails the obligation to present a management and reforestation plan for the area under exploration.

The Secretary of State also spoke of a precautionary measure as having been adopted. The measure consists of the temporary ban on the exploitation of the  “Mussivi” and “Pau-rosa” species.

These are the two most exploited species in recent years. The move is meant to allow the  inventory and assessment of the current statute of these species.

As for transportation of the timber, the official said that the new forestry legislation came to ban the inter-provincial circulation of the timber and stipulates requirements for a healthy transportation of lumber.

He said that this measure will contribute, among others, to local industrialisation of wood.

It will also contribute to job creation in production areas and reduction of road accidents involving wooden heavy haulers.
