Minister announces creation of marine resources conservation area
Soyo - Angolan minister of Environment Paula Cristina Francisco Coelho said Thursday the mangrove ecosystem of the Zaire river channel may become one of future area for creation of a conservation area of marine resources with international certification.

The minister visited the zone, located in Soyo municipality, northern Zaire province, having learnt of the potential of its ecosystem.
The minister admitted that the area meets the requirements that enables it to compete for its certification as an area of conservation of aquatic resources.
Taking stock of her 48-hour visit to Soyo, the minister pledged commitment to further conservation of these and other forest resources in the region.
The official revealed that a geo-referral work had been sent to the International Institute of Conservation of Nature, for certification.
In addition to beauty, the minister said that the future conservation area will gain the category taking into account the intact natural state, the virginity of mangroves, as well as the aspects related to the preservation of the aquatic species.
There are also parameters to be observed and filled in to attain what the international questionnaire demands for the desired certification.
It involves the engagement of local communities in the assumption of good practices for the preservation of all the region's environmental heritage.
Paula Cristina Coelho said that the visit served to assess the degree of implementation of the legislative package of her Ministry on decentralisation and training in waste management.
