The election of Angola, together with Saudi Arabia, Germany, Argentina, Canada and Somalia, took place during the 163rd of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council, held from 2 to 6 December in Rome (Italy).
At this event, Angola was represented by a delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, António Francisco de Assis.
Last October, Angola's WFP representative, Fátima Jardim, invited the executive director of this UN agency, David Beasley, to visit Angola in 2020 to learn about the effects of the drought in the south of the country, and to note the development of the Okavango-Zambeze cross-border project.
The invitation was issued on the occasion of the presentation, in October, of credential letters to the WFP leader, who at the time suggested successful experiences in other arid areas of Africa, which could be adapted for agriculture in southern Angola, particularly in the provinces mostly affected by climate change.
