Joining Trade Zone to ease local produced goods tariffs

Luanda - Joining the SADC Free Trade Zone will allow the easing of tariffs for goods produced in Angola said the head of the Tariff and Trade Department of the Customs Administration of the General Tax Administration (AGT), Santos Mussamo.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Workshop on "SADC Rules of Origin," the official said that the entry will depend on the tariff reduction or that Angola will have to present a tariff offer based on the economic and productive reality of the country.

"When the State joins to the mentioned zone, we will apply the preferential tariffs, having as support to the Rules of Origin," he said.

"Sooner or later, Angola will be able to join the Free Trade Area, within the framework of fulfilling the agenda of membership of this regional body," he stressed.

As soon as it is effective, domestic producers linked to factories, agribusiness, industry and other sectors of the productive sector will be able to sell at regional level without customs taxation, according to established rules.

The official said that in the implementation of the agreements of the zone there will be the disarmament tariff or the reduction of customs tariffs and can even reach zero tariff.

The workshop on "Rules of Origin of SADC" carried out by AGT was attended by 50 companies from the beverage production sector.
