There are funds available to tackle drought- minister

Ondjiva - Angola’s Finance minister, Archer Mangueira, assured on Monday, in southern Cunene province, that there is enough money available to be injected in the emergency plan for the combat against drought in southern region of Angola.

The minister, who visited the regions affected by the drought on Monday, said that from the total of 3.9 billion of kwanzas made available to assist the emergency plan, only 40 percent of this sum has been spent to date.

According to the minister, the level of execution of the emergency plan are lower than expected, so a team from the Finance Ministry and local technicians are currently working in Cunene province to enable that the money made available could be used without harming what is defined by the law.

The drought, which has hit the Cunene province since October 2018 has already affected 857,443 people out of a total of 171.488 families as well as 907,572 heads of cattle causing the death of 26,267 bovine, goats and pigs.
