President stresses importance of tourism in economic diversification
Luanda - Angolan head of State João Lourenço has highlighted the role of the tourism sector in promoting development and generating revenue and jobs, within the framework of the country?s economic diversification.

The President said so at the World Tourism Forum (WTF) opening ceremony, held Thursday in the country’s capital, Luanda.
João Lourenço spoke of Government commitment, in the short and medium term, to the expansion of hotel infrastructures, as one of the goal to meet.
The head of state also spoke the State’s engagement in infrastructure of development hubs of Cabo Ledo (Luanda), Calandula (Malanje) and the Trans-border projects of OKavango Zambeze, to increase the supply and diversity of tourists and clients in general.
In addition to the infrastructure, the President also mentioned the improvement of quality of services in the sector, promotion of tourism in international markets and attract tourists to the different world tourist destinations.
João Lourenço, who was addressing the leaders of the tourism industry and world policy, with stress to the former French President, François Hollande, said that in order to achieve this objective, the Government is implementing the Prodesi Programme.
According to him, the cross-cutting programme is intended to create conditions to improve the business environment in the country, encourage private investment and promote partnerships, especially in tourism.
"With the integration of tourism in this programme, as one of the strategic sectors for the national economic diversification, we think we have started an irreversible process of boosting economic activity to reverse the unfavorable scenario caused by the economic and financial crisis that hit the country ", the President said.
The Statesman pointed as challenge to the increase the supply of rooms in hotels and resorts of all categories yet to be built and to make the different sub-sectors of tourism throughout its chain absorb young job seekers.
The forum, taking place for the second time in Africa (the first was held in Ghana), is attended by Angolan Tourism Minister Ângela Bragança and the WTF president, the Turkish Bulut Bagci.
Similar event took place in Turkey, the United Kingdom, Qatar, the United States and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
The World Tourism Forum, according to the President, has in pipeline an investment estimated at billions of dollars for Angola to develop the sector.
The event, which gathers about 1, 500 delegates, is seeking investment opportunities in the construction, transportation, energy and water and agriculture sectors.
