Angola attends AU trade meeting

Luanda - An Angolan delegation led by the Trade minister, Joffre Van-Dúnem Júnior,is since Friday taking part in the 8th meeting of the African Union Ministers of Trade (AMOT), in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The gathering will be preceded by other meetings, namely the eighth meeting of high level trade officials, fifth meeting of the Working Group on Non-Tariff barriers and technical hurdles to trade, as well as the 15th Negotiating Forum taking place From May 5 to June 2019 in Ethiopia.

The meetings aim at validating the legal tools related to the Rules of Procedures, mechanism to eliminate t non tariffs technical blocks as well as the list of concessions of the Member States, including the calendar for the entrance into force of the African Free Trade Zone.

Angola’s participation in these meetings is of crucial importance, taking into account its current engagement in the regional economic integration, whether at the level of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) or at level of the continent, with a view to following closely the process and accomplishment of the assumptions for the implementation of Free Trade Zone, of which the country is a signatory.

The Angolan delegation to the event is integrated by the National Director for External Trade, Lukonde Luansi, and the chief negotiator for African Free Trade Zone ,Videira Pedro.

Angola signed the agreement which creates the African Free Trade Zone, whose process is currently under internal procedural preparation for its ratification.
