Fisheries minister wants Peskwanza firm reactivated

Porto Amboim - The minister of Fisheries and Sea, Maria Antonieta Baptista, said on Saturday in central Cuanza Sul province that is necessary to reactivate the public industrial fishing firm (PesKwanza) to aid reorganizing the sector and create jobs for young people.

The Cabinet minister said so, while addressing the opening of the Technical Scientific Council of the Ministry of Fisheries and Sea.

Peskwanza firm is located in Porto Amboim city, and current faces a tough economic situation, as currently the company survives by renting its fishing licenses to private firms, which enables it to pay the salary of the remaining 81 employees from the 400 workers it had in the past.

Peskwanza is in need of 15 tones freezing tunnels, two storage chambers with capacity for 150 tones, suction pump and ice maker.
