Co-op gets tractors to boost production

Sumbe - The "Agostinho Neto" co-operative, located in the municipality of Quilenda, central Cuanza Sul Province, received last Friday from the government three tractors and their implements, to increase the extension of cultivation areas and agricultural production of cereals and tubers.

The delivery of tractors to 267 associates of this former military co-operative aims to boost the production of cereals, tubers and vegetables on a 200 hectare area.

On the occasion, the secretary of State for Social Action, Lúcio Gonçalves do Amaral, who delivered the tractors, assured the Executive's continued support to the former military through their inclusion in productive activities.

He stressed that such action is national in scope, with 104 tractors and their implements available to support former military associations and agricultural cooperatives. Some units have already been delivered to the northern provinces of Bengo and Uíge.

In 2019, the Province of Cuanza Sul reintegrated 147 former military personnel in sea fishing, livestock, milling and motorcycle taxi activities, 65 of whom are from the Municipality of Quilenda.

He revealed that in Cuanza Sul 2,524 former soldiers are still to be socially reintegrated.

The co-operative's 267 members currently produce cabbage, peanuts, peppers and maize, totaling an area of ??8.5 hectares of agricultural production.
