Ganga Júnior, who was coy on names and figures, said there are diamond companies that have not paid taxes for ten years.

He also explained that companies not carrying out law-based environmental restoration programmes will also be held accountable criminally or undergo financial penalties.

Companies that do not regularize their situation may lose their diamond exploitation rights, Ganga Junior said, urging managers to collaborate with the state, at a time when the government's commitment is to expand sources of revenue collection to diversify the economy.

An awareness and negotiation process to define tax payment regularization is currently underway in the country.
