The programme, which is expected to benefit roughly 1.6 million families all over the country, has a global financing of US $420 million, of which US $320 million have been allocated by the World Bank and the remaining US $100 million by the Angolan Executive.

In Nzeto, it is expected to benefit 1,700 vulnerable people, previously registered.

When speaking at the national central act to launch the project, the minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes Júnior highlighted the economic assistance  value of the Kwenda Programme and the positive effects on trade and local markets, stressing that Kwenda will stimulate agricultural production and trade in rural areas.

The minister foresaw a substantial improvement in the living of the Angolan population, when the results of this programme are associated with those of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), ongoing countrywide.

He referred to the strong component of integration of the beneficiaries in productive and income-generating activities, stressing that the Akz 25,000.00 to be allocated quarterly to families, in one year, will facilitate their inclusion in productive and profitable actions.

He recalled that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Agrarian Development Fund are the entities responsible for implementing Kwenda.

The two institutions are responsible for ensuring the supply of production factors, such as seeds and fertilizers, soil preparation and technical assistance, aiming at increasing the production and productivity of peasant families.

Manuel Nunes Júnior appealed to the beneficiaries to use the financial amounts properly, warning that this project is temporary.

In the welcome message, the governor of Zaire, Pedro Makita Armando Júlia, thanked the choice of the province for this launching act and praised the commitment of the Executive in the search for solutions to the multiple problems that afflict Angolan citizens.

The launching act was witnessed, among others, by  Angolan government officials, representatives of the United Nations system, World Bank, Unicef and African Development Bank.
