Finance Ministry debt payment relieves companies
Benguela - The private business sector in Benguela is currently experiencing relief due to the payment by the Ministry of Finance of 31.6 billion kwanzas from the total 48 billion kwanzas of the debt validated, contracted between 2013 and 2017, Angop leant on Wednesday from a government source.

Speaking about the meeting of the community consultation council held on Tuesday, the secretary general of the Benguela government, Achiles de Carvalho, said that the amount corresponds to two thirds of the total value of the debt, and that the authorities are working towards the overall settlement of the amount.
As for the Program of Integrated Municipal Intervention, the source added that the province has in general 62 projects planned, of which 31 are already being implemented in five of the 10 municipalities, while seven others will be implemented very soon.
Among the new projects already approved and in the process of being financially supported by the Ministry of Finance there is a medical centre, two schools and earthworks.
In his turn, the head of the National Statistics Institute in Benguela, José Maria Martins, explained that the local population grew from 2.36 million inhabitants, in 2014, to 2.6 million inhabitants, in 2020, a growth of 100,000 inhabitants per year.
Local authorities see these figures as challenging in terms of providing basic social services, namely the supply of electricity and the distribution of drinking water to the new growing neighborhoods.
