State funding for education is a way of distributing wealth - minister

Luanda - Angolan minister of Higher Education Adão do Nascimento said Thursday in Luanda that the funding provided by State for Education and Teaching is one of the privileged ways of redistribution of national wealth and combat poverty.

Adão do Nascimento was speaking at the International Conference on Financing of Higher Education taking place at "Belas" Conference Centre in Luanda.

The minister was addressing the topic on the notion of higher education institution as a basis for diversification of financing resources in higher education institutions.

The official said that the financing of Education is a way of combating poverty.

According to him, the State is responsible for this public asset, relying on support by society, through the contribution from families, private initiatives and international communities.

He said that the higher education institutions need safe sources of funding to maintain their sustainability deemed as necessary to boost the notion and ensure the action of the actors and partners involved in the higher education subsystem.

Other sources, according to the minister, entails to enshrine in legislation the requirement of diversification of funding sources in each institution.

This include encouraging the practice of diversification of funding sources that, over the time, become tradition and promote assessment and inspection to ensure permanent improvement of the funding for higher education institutions.

The minister pointed out the main guidelines as a reference contained in the programme of the ruling MPLA party's government for 2012-20120, National Development Plan 2013-2017,  National Plan for Staff Training 2013-2020,  National Youth Development Plan 2013-2020, among others.

Adão do Nascimento defended the need of the training of staff and technicians to be based on a correct concept of higher education institutions.
