Angolan government committed to improving education - minister

Moçamedes - Minister of Education Maria Cândida Teixeira said Thursday that the government remains committed to improving the education system, with focus on ensuring the full functioning of school institutions.

Cândida Teixeira was addressing an opening ceremony of 2018 academic year, chaired by president João Lourenço, in south-west Namibe province.

According to her, the challenges of providing quality education in the country necessarily entail the improvement of the main indicators of performance such as the expansion of the school network and increase of the educational offer.

The official said that this network has grown over the years, but still does not meet the needs of population growth in the country.

She also said that the improvement of the quality of learning implies changes in the behaviour of the makers of teaching and learning process.

The process includes the improvement of the contents and the evaluation of the students' learning.

Maria Cândida Teixeira also pointed out the equity of the system, in term of school inclusion, gender equality in access to education, combat regional discrepancies and providing course in line with the economic and social development of the provinces.

Another priority quoted by minister is the eradication of illiteracy, calling for the involvement of everyone to achieve the goal set by 2025.
