UMN, UNDP sign memorandum of understanding

Lubango - A memorandum of understanding to contribute and promote the economic and social development of Angola was signed Thursday in Lubango, between the Rectory of the University Mandume Ya Ndemufayo (UMN) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The protocol is based on the strengthening of knowledge products through joint research, organization of seminars and presentations in the areas of poverty eradication.

It also includes capacity building through unpaid internship opportunities in UNDP and the sharing of trainings and publications together with meeting facilities.

The proposed co-operation under the Memorandum of Understanding will run for two years with effect from this date and will be concluded on 14 November 2020.

The document was signed by UMN's principal Orlando Manuel José Fernandes da Mata, UNDP Angola director Henrik Fredborg Larsen.

Orlando da Mata reaffirmed that the institution will continue to collaborate in all the defined strategies, reinforcing the cooperation with UNDP, in order to concretize the proposed challenges for the socio-economic development.

Issues related to poverty eradication, women's empowerment, good governance are other priorities of the agreement.

For Orlando da Mata, Angola is going through a new phase as a consequence of a new context, so there are situations that need special attention.

UNDP Angola director Henrik Fredborg Larsen said that this agreement will contribute to the production of more knowledge through joint research on relevant issues such as economic, social and human development in Angola, focusing on the analysis of related policy options with the areas of poverty, resilience and gender.
