MED plans to teach 500,000 illiterate citizens
Luanda - At least 500.000 citizens will learn how to read and write in this school year in the adult education subsystem, under the Ministry of Education (MED) Action Plan to intensify youth and adult literacy at national level.

These data were released today (Monday), in Luanda, to Angop, by the national director of Adult Education, Evaristo Pedro, who revealed that 9,600 literacy teachers have already been identified, whose number should increase due to the mobilization response that is being made at community level.
The National Director of Adult Education was speaking at the opening ceremony of the national training seminar for provincial trainers for the generalization of the 1st cycle of adult secondary education.
Evaristo Pedro pointed out that the process is an asset because young people and adults with only grade 6 have the opportunity to complete the Secondary School in just two years in the acceleration mode.
In her turn, Education Minister Ana Paula Tuavanje Elias, who chaired the opening act of the event, said that with the generalization of the process the country will be able to accelerate learning and level the academic profile of teachers with the category of taking into account the provisions of the current teaching career statute and the Education Subsystem Basic Law.
He said that under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda 2030, the sector will substantially increase the number of young people and adults with relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
