MED considers school lunch vital in Education System

Luanda - The Angolan Government has the school lunch distribution as one of its main priorities to improve the education learning process, affirmed last Monday, in Luanda, the Minister of Education, Ana Paula Tuavanje Elias

The Minister, who was speaking at the end of the March 1st Celebration, African School Lunch Day, informed that efforts are being made aiming to find out support from other non-government institutions to make the school lunch distribution available to all children.

In 2013, the Angolan Government approved the Presidential Decree 138/13 under the School Food Program (PAE), an instrument in which prioritizes the school lunch project, to guarantee children's welfare and development.  

The food distribution was decentralized in 2016, and became handled by the provincial Government.

“We have the support of several ministerial departments, such as the Ministry of Fisheries and the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), participative institutions in the policies regarding the school lunch distribution”, she said. 

Food Pyramid

During the meeting, was displayed a food pyramid, a graphic nutritional guide that aims to advice the daily food consume to a healthy population with a 2 year old above.

According to experts, a good nutrition is crucial to the students understanding capacity, held on the school performance, and provide others improvement, such as the increase of sleeping quality, respiratory quality, and prevent against cardiovascular disease

This year, the Angolan Minister of Education, celebrated the African School Lunch Day's 5th anniversary.
