Covid-19: Students from Russia in quarantine

Luanda - The 250 Angolan students who arrived Sunday evening from Russia have been placed in institutional quarantine, as a measure to prevent new cases of imported covid-19.

The students who arrived home on a national airline (Taag) flight sponsored by Angolan Government will remain in institutional quarantine in various Luanda hotels made available for the purpose.

Welcoming the group at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Health minister, Sílvia Lutucuta, told journalists the repatriation of the students is for temporary and follows a concert between Angolan and Russian authorities.

As to the biosafety material that arrived from China on Sunday, the minister who is also the spokesperson for the Interministerial  Commission for Covid-19 Response, said this is the second consignment of a total of 380 tons expected in the country to fight the pandemic.


According to Sílvia Lutucuta, the just arrived 35 tons follows another 70-ton batch of last week, bringing the total to 105.

Until now, Angola has reported 50 positive cases of covid-19, three deaths, 17 recoveries and 29 active patients in stable condition, according to the latest update presented Monday by the secretary of state for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.
