Speaking to ANGOP on Wednesday, the head of the historic and cultural department, João Afonso, said that the sector has already prepared a roadmap showing the monuments that can attract visitors.
He said that the promotion of cultural tourism will contribute to the collection of revenues to the coffers of the State and avoid the risk of extinction of some monuments and sites due to poor protection and conservation.
João Afonso said that Huambo province is among the richest in the country in terms of historical and cultural heritage, referring to the 123 monuments and sites listed by the Culture Directorate.
He informed that six are classified as national cultural heritage, for their historical value, while seven await for their classification, explaining that they are divided by monuments of civil architecture, religious and funerary architecture, military, archaeological sites, historical, landscape zones, symbols of traditional power and statues.
Due to lack of publicity, João Afonso admitted that they are anonymous, a situation that can be overcome with the promotion of cultural tourism.
