This was during an audience the Culture minister Carolina Cerqueira granted to the Italian Ambassador to Angola, Claudio Miscia.

Angola and Italy signed a bilateral agreement on cultural, technical and scientific cooperation in 2002 and formally ratified by Angola on 13 August 2007.

During the audience, Carolina Cerqueira stressed the need for the two States to strengthen cooperation with actions to promote culture in their respective countries, exchange of experience and training of staff.

The minister also pointed to restoration and appreciation of the historical-cultural heritage, with emphasis on the religious heritage in which Italy has a great deal of experience.

Speaking to Angop at the end of the meeting, the Italian ambassador expressed his country's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Angola.

The European country is ready to cooperate with Angola in actions related to the enhancing, disseminating and preservation of Angolan culture.

Claudio Miscia requested Angola's support for his country’s candidacy to UNESCO for world heritage and joining, as observer, the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP).

Italy was the first European country to recognise Angola after the country gained independence on 11 November 1975.
