In the book written with intelligent sense of humour, the author strongly criticizes the abuse of power and the totalitarian systems disguised as a democracy.
In the preface of the book it reads “With mastery, which characterizes the writer, Pepetela, biggest name in the Angolan literature and of Portuguese language, surprises once again in style, form and substance with his recent romance (...).
The story takes place during a recent time in an uncertain location of an African country, whose narrator and protagonist is nameless, but known only a former president of a certain nation of Africa.
The protagonist, who also narrates the events, has a sudden death caused by a “disease that caught everybody unprepared”. Right in the first paragraph of the book, the narrator starts with the phrase “I’m dead”.
Pepetela has over 20 books published.
