Management Committee assesses UNESCO recommendations on Mbanza Kongo

Mbanza Kongo - Members of the Participatory Management Committee of the historic center of Mbanza Kongo, northern Zaire province, have met since Wednesday morning to, among other things, assess the degree of compliance with the 41st session of the Unesco World Heritage Committee on this world heritage city on 08 July 2017.

Among the nine recommendations of this international organization are the construction of a new airport for Mbanza Kongp (the current one is located in the center of the city), the removal or replacement of the antennas of telecommunications operators (Unitel and Movicel), as well as the tower of the Provincial Broadcaster of the National Radio of Angola (RNA).

The event is  chaired by the deputy governor of Zaire for the political, economic and social sector, António Félix Kialungila, representing the provincial governor, attended by Secretary of State for Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus.

At the opening of the event, the secretary of state for culture said that the Angolan Government is working at the speed of "cruise" to comply with the recommendations of this international body on Mbanza Kongo, whose deadline ends in 2020.

The committee is comprised by provincial governor (coordinator), the Ministries of Culture, Education, Finance, Hotel and Tourism, Construction, Town Planning and Housing, Territory Administration, Interior and Environment.
