Government rescues tchokwe cultural habits

Dundo - The government of Lunda Norte, through the provincial office of Culture, will this year reactivate the txota (jangos) in the communities, places where the elders will transmit knowledge about the habits and customs of this people to the youth.

The plan is one of the priorities for rescuing the rituals of the Tchokwe tradition, in joint action with the traditional authorities.

According to the director of the Provincial Culture Office in Lunda Norte, Esmeralda Maximata, hard work will be done to raise awareness in the communities to encourage families to rescue some endangered rituals, such as Mucanda and kafundeji, considered indispensable in transition from adolescence to adulthood.

The government will strengthen dialogue with the Ministry of Culture in order to speed up the process of registration of the Samanhonga (Thinker) statuette to the world heritage of humanity.

The implementation of scientific research studies on the historical and cultural heritage in Lunda Norte and the training of cadres, are the challenges of the sector for this year.

The province of Lunda Norte consists of Tchokwe, Lundas (Arund), Balubas, Kakhongos, Imbangalas, Trams, Songos, among others.

The txianda, txissela, kalukuta, kandowa, makhopo, maringa, kandjendje, likembe, kanga, kasebu dances, among others, supported by a variety of traditional music instruments such as thcingunvu, ndjimba, tchissanje and muiyemba, Ngoma (drums) identify this people.
