Uige - The Chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), General Francisco Pereira Furtado Wednesday pledged the Angolan Armed Forces support and solidarity to the Angolan citizens expelled from the Democratic Republic Congo.
General Furtado was speaking to the press at Headquarters’ Barracks of the Northern Military Region, in northern Uige province, soon after his arrival in the provincial capital.
He announced that the gesture of solidarity ensures air support, medical and logistical assistance to minimize the situation along the border in the province, following the unexpected expulsion of the Angolan citizens who were residing in neighbouring DRC.
Francisco Pereira Furtado also said that his visit to the Military Region is part of the periodical visiting programme to the military commands to assess the degree of fulfilment of the tasks assigned to the regions, especially the troops readiness.
The need to control the FAA commitment in the region, in the ambit of improving the conditions of infrastructures, life and work, carried out by the staff in the northern military region, are also part of the visiting agenda of FAA chief of staff to Uige.
The Armed Forces senior officer, who is also expected in Zaire province, as well as in Maquela do Zombo district, will meet the provincial governor Mawete João Baptista.
