Luanda - Angola and Cape Verde agreed to review the existing cooperation accord in the domain of defence, adjusting it to the new constitutional reality of the former.

The information is contained in a final communiqué released Thursday in Luanda at the end of a visit the Cape Verdean defence minister, Jorge Homero Tolentino Araujo, paid to Angola.

The conclusions contained in the communique follows official talks held Wednesday in Luanda between delegations from both countries headed by their respective defence ministers, namely Cândido Pereira Van-Dúnem and Jorge Tolentino Araújo.

The parties have thus decided to appoint a work team whose members will be announced in due time, the communiqué also states.
The delegations agreed that the review of the cooperation accord in the domain of defence expands its ambit, endowing it with a strategic scope that corresponds to the will of Angola and Cape Verde.

The parties have identified new areas of cooperation in the domain of defence, with stress to the need for a combination of efforts that ensure the Atlantic Ocean to be a space of peace, cooperation and development, free from trafficking of drugs, arms, human and piracy and other damaging practices.

During the talks, according to the source, the parties exchanged information on the political, economic, social and security situation prevailing in their respective countries, including regional and international matters of common interest.

The Cape Verde Defence minister and is delegation left Luanda at the end of a four-day work visit to Angola.
