Angolan president briefed on António Guterres candidacy for UNSG
Luanda - Angolan Head of State José Eduardo dos Santos Thursday in Luanda was informed on the process of candidacy of António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres to the post of the UN Secretary General.

This was during the audience the Angolan Statesman granted to the candidate himself at Presidential Palace.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Antonio Guterres, who served as Portuguese prime minister, said he presented a programme of his candidacy for the world body’s top position.
"It is very important for me to have Angola at the very beginning of this candidacy, as I am an old friend and admirer of the Angolan people," he said.
The visiting official expressed satisfaction at development achieved in Angola, having praised the International community role.
"As a member of the UN Security Council, Angola has played relevant role in its interventions, with stress to the issues related to the Great Lakes, protection of women and conflict situations," added António Guterres.
Born on April 30, 1949, António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, who is engineer and politician, served as prime minister of Portugal in 1995/2002 and secretary general of Socialist Party in 1992.
The new candidate for UN secretary general was also UN High Commissioner for Refugees between June 15, 2005 and December 31, 2015.
