The campaign that was launched at “Bom Deus” church at Golf II, Kilamba Kiaxi district, is meant to recall that the church is an active part of the society and can get involved in politics provided it does not go against the law in force in the country.
MP João Pinto, who opened the campaign with a lecture, said Christians must participate in political matters as it is through it that people exercise their rights of citizenship.
He explained that while the citizen was free not to participate for personal convictions, this could not be a doctrine that affected the civic participation as the Constitution does not allow this.
The MP said he hopes that the organisations continue sensitising the citizen to their free participation in the country’s political affairs, believing that societies have their weaknesses and excesses, but “we must participate in political affairs and believe that life will be better in future.”
The lecture was sponsored by LAJUCRI and was intended to encourage the participation of Christians in the voter registration and forthcoming general election of 2017.
