The device containing the provisional data on 9.4 the million registered voters was handed over by the minister of Territory Administration, Bornito de Sousa, to the CNE president, André da Silva Neto.
This was during a ceremony witnessed by the CNE commissioners and MAT officials. The ceremony also served for the hand-over of the Report on Voter Registration conducted from 25 August 2016 to 31 March 2017.
The event was followed by a presentation by the MAT secretary of State for Institutional Affairs, Adão de Almeida, on the most relevant operations of the registration process.
Addressing the ceremony, the CNE president mentioned the importance of the event, stating that the provisional Ficim will enable his institution to conduct remainder tasks towards the election.
André da Silva Neto said the CNE is currently hiring the firm that will run technically the Ficim, before the mapping and electoral roll are produced.
However, André da Silva Neto recalled that in terms of the law, the definite Ficim will only come into the CNE hands 15 days after the head of State calls the election.
In the meantime, he added, MAT will continue to sift the data to eliminate eventual double registration.
